Sign Refurbishment

If your sign is still sound but looks tired, we can bring it back with new faces, fresh vinyl, repainting or repairs. We handle refurbishments for shops, factories, offices and sites across Boksburg, Ekurhuleni and greater Gauteng.

What We Refurbish and What Can Be Saved

Not every old sign needs to be replaced. In many cases the frame, box, posts or mounting structure is still usable, while the visible parts have faded, cracked or peeled. We inspect the sign first and advise what can be kept, what needs work, and what should be replaced for safety or appearance. That saves money and also reduces downtime on site.

We refurbish shopfront signs, lightbox faces, fascia boards, cut lettering, directional boards, estate-agent boards, safety signs and vehicle graphics. If the structure is still straight and secure, we can often refresh it with new sign faces, new vinyl, fresh paint or a cleaned-up finish. In Boksburg and the East Rand, signs take a beating from sun, dust, rain and load-shedding related wear, so even a good sign may need attention after a few years.

  • Replacement of faded Perspex, ACM, PVC or board faces
  • Removal and re-application of cut vinyl lettering
  • Repainting of frames, posts, brackets and surrounds
  • Repair of loose fixings, cracked corners and lifted edges
  • Cleaning, degreasing and surface preparation before work starts

Our Refurbishment Process From Inspection to Refit

We start with a site survey or an in-workshop inspection, depending on the size and condition of the sign. Our team checks the structure, anchoring, substrate, electrical condition where relevant, and the overall finish. If the sign is on a wall or at height, we also look at access, safety and how the work will be carried out with the least interruption to your business.

Once we know what is required, we prepare artwork or match the existing layout as closely as possible. For older signs, we often recreate worn lettering, refresh faded colours, or update contact details and business names. Johan in production then schedules the job, and Sibusiso manages on-site removal and refit when needed. If the sign is going back up in stages, we keep the area neat and secure until final installation. Small details matter here, because a poor prep job will show through later.

  • Initial inspection and condition report
  • Measurements, photos and artwork check
  • Removal of damaged graphics or faces
  • Surface prep, repair and cleaning
  • Manufacture, fitting and final alignment

Materials and Finishes We Use for a Cleaner, Longer Result

The best refurbishment choice depends on the age of the sign, where it is located and how much weather it gets. Signs facing west in open sun, or near busy roads with dust and grime, usually need tougher finishes than indoor boards. Coastal humidity can also affect metal and fasteners, so we choose materials and coatings that suit the environment, not just the look.

We work with durable sign face materials, exterior-grade vinyl, primers and weather-resistant paints. For lightbox units, we can supply new translucent faces with crisp printed copy or cut vinyl where required. For name plates and office signs, a clean reseal or new print can be enough. In the workshop, we also check thickness, fixings and edge sealing so the sign holds up better after the job is done.

  • ACM panels for rigid exterior replacements
  • Perspex or similar acrylic for lightbox faces and plaques
  • PVC board for temporary or budget-conscious refurbishments
  • Exterior vinyl for logos, lettering and directional copy
  • Primers and topcoats suited to outdoor exposure

Turnaround Times, Access and Site Coordination

Turnaround depends on the size of the sign, the condition of the structure and whether we are working on the ground or at height. Smaller sign refreshes can be turned around quickly, while larger site boards, fleet marking repairs or multiple shop signs may need a phased schedule. We always aim to keep disruption down, especially for retail, industrial and body corporate sites where access has to be managed properly.

On many refurb jobs, we can complete the work in one to three working days after approval, provided materials are available and weather is suitable. If a lift, ladder access or after-hours work is needed, we plan that in advance. In some cases we can remove the old face, repair it in the workshop, then return for final fitting the next day. That helps keep your site presentable and safe while the work is underway.

  • Same-day site checks for urgent damage where possible
  • Typical small refurbishments: 1 to 3 working days
  • Medium sign repairs: 3 to 5 working days
  • Larger multi-sign projects: scheduled in phases
  • After-hours or weekend work can be arranged by site needs

Pricing That Reflects Condition, Not Guesswork

Refurbishment pricing is based on what the sign actually needs. A sign with a sound frame and only faded vinyl will cost far less than a board that needs new faces, hardware and repainting. We price honestly after inspection, so you know whether repair is better than full replacement. That is often the fairest way for property owners, estate agents and businesses managing several locations.

Costs are influenced by size, access, material choice, number of colours, print area, fixing method and the amount of prep required. If you are comparing options, we can quote refurbishment against replacement so you can make a proper decision. For repeat clients with multiple branches, we can also stagger the work to fit a budget over more than one visit. No one wants a surprise once the sign is off the wall.

  • Small fascia refreshes priced from condition and size
  • Quotes can separate labour, materials and access costs
  • Best value when the existing structure can be reused
  • Bulk pricing available for multi-site refurbishments
  • Maintenance jobs can be grouped to reduce call-out waste

Maintenance Intervals and When to Book a Refresh

A well made sign should not need constant work, but it does need attention from time to time. In Gauteng, a sensible maintenance check every 12 to 18 months helps catch lifted vinyl, rust spots, sun fade and loose fixings before they become expensive. Sites with heavy traffic, strong sun or constant dust may need a shorter interval, while indoor signs can go longer between services.

We recommend a quick inspection after major storms, building work or electrical interruptions around lit signs. If a sign has started to look dull, uneven or hard to read, that is usually the right time to refresh it. A faded sign can make a business look neglected, even when everything inside is working fine. A tidy face, straight lettering and sound mounting go a long way.

  • 12 to 18 month inspection cycle for exposed outdoor signs
  • Check after storm damage, vandalism or building repairs
  • Repaint or reface when colours fade or readability drops
  • Schedule maintenance before fasteners corrode or loosen
  • Combine refresh work with cleaning and small repairs

How to Get Your Refurbishment Started

Send your enquiry through the contact page and tell us where the sign is, what it looks like now, and what you want changed. Photos help a lot, especially if the sign is high up or weathered. From there, Lerato and Nokuthula will help with the next steps, while Ayesha checks the artwork and Pieter coordinates workshop work where needed. Michael oversees the overall job and makes sure the finish suits the site.

We work across Boksburg, Benoni, Germiston, Kempton Park, Alberton, Springs, Edenvale, Midrand and the wider Ekurhuleni area. If the sign can be saved, we will tell you plainly. If replacement is the better option, we will explain that too. Either way, you get a practical answer and a sign that looks right again.

  • Send clear photos and the site address with your enquiry
  • Tell us if the sign is painted, vinyl-applied or lit
  • Let us know if access is limited or after-hours is needed
  • We assess repair versus replacement before quoting

Questions we get asked

Can you refurbish a sign without replacing the whole structure?

Yes. If the frame, posts or backing are still sound, we can often replace the visible faces, refresh the lettering and repaint worn parts instead of starting from scratch.

Do you handle signs on site or only in the workshop?

Both. Smaller work can be done in the workshop, while larger signs, mounted boards and access-sensitive jobs are handled on site with the right crew and equipment.

How do you decide whether refurbishment is worth it?

We inspect the sign and compare repair cost to replacement cost. If the structure is safe and the visible damage is limited, refurbishment is usually the better option.
